#FEESMUSTFALL

                            PAYING ACCORDING TO YOUR INCOME.

In December 2017,president Jacob Zuma made a shocking announcement based on #feesmustfall campaign, he claimed that the government will subsidise free higher education for poor and working class students who comes from households with a combined annual income of R350 000 or less, commencing in 2018.

The former president (Jacob Zuma ), also made a provision for the "missing middle" students -those from households earning up to R600 000 annually-to have their 2018 fee increase paid for by the state through gap grant funding.

while president Cyril Ramaphosa's government grapples with the enormity and practicality of Zuma's announcement, students whose combined family income exceeds R600 000 annually will unfortunately still have to pay for their tertiary education for the foreseeable future.

According to your own opinion, is it a good idea that students from rich families must pay for their higher education?

  1. Sometimes even those rich families have more responsibilities. I think a proper research must be done. Everyone deserves free education

  2. I don't think its a good idea, it might happen that those families have got too many things to take care of but because they have kids to pay fees for, they cant. If the government imposes a free education, it should be free education for all and not for the "chosen ones" if i can put it that way...

  3. I think those who are rich should try to understand the situation of the poor that they will not be able to pay fees for themselves while rich students can do that without funds.

  4. I personally think that free education should apply to each and every student because I believe that segregating students according to how much income their parents earn will make those student who are not paying feel inferior towards other student higher and I also believe that the income the bigger are your problems.

  5. I personally believe that education should not be free , our county's economy is already in crisis , Vat has increased , our Rand is weak , and we were currently degraded to Junk status . How do we expect our government to fund for the so called free tertiary education ,by increasing taxes and eTolls food prices etc.

  6. If it happens that any student's education is paid for, I say everyone should benefit, rich or poor. The government is to serve South African citizens, not the poor only

  7. Absolutely! this is because if they don't rich people will continue to be more richer while poor people continue to be poorer, and by so doing government will be creating a better economic stability for the country

  8. We should think of those students who are academically gifted but can not afford to pay for their education, I personally think education should be free to accommodate those kind of student. #feesmustfall

  9. i think people who can afford to pay their fees must pay and those who cannot must not pay

  10. Not many people in our country are able to pay for their education, not only tertiary but others are struggling to pay for their children's primary education as fees are higher and those people are non working citizens or earn less. I believe free education must be granted to those who are financially struggling.

  11. Education cannot be free... There are bursaries that support students who r working hard... For education to be free someone will have to pay a higher income tax n someday those people will be us

  12. I think they must cut off 10% of their registration fee that everyone is suppose to pay rather than not to pay at all.

  13. I don't think education should be free at all even thought it sounds like a good idea
I think when education is free to everyone it will not have the value it has now on regards of employment.... It will be likely that those who got free education would not have equal opportunities to those who didn't in the case where it's stated that the rich should pay for their own education

  14. I think peoples background must be checked, so that those who can afford to pay, must pay

  15. I think they must pay since they can afford.
